What is Medicare Part B and what does it cover?

Medicare Part b covers

The short answer is: Medicare Part B covers your Doctor’s office visits.

But its also covers all outpatient healthcare services administered by healthcare professionals outside of the Hospital (Hospital is covered by Part A). That includes outpatient services.

  • Preventative Healthcare 

It covers Medicare-certified physical, occupational, and speech therapy sessions for outpatients.

  • Ambulance services

It covers emergency transportation by ambulance and alternative, medically necessary transportation for non-emergencies on a conditional basis.

  • Medical Tests 

Medicare Part B takes care of all lab tests and x-rays ordered by your doctor.

  • Durable Medical Equipment

If you require medical equipment that can be used at home, it will be covered by Medicare Part B provided it will be able to withstand repeated use.

  • Select Prescription Drugs

Medicare Part B covers common drugs administered by doctors in a doctor office/outpatient setting, and certain drugs including immunosuppressant and select anti-cancer, antiemetic, and dialysis drugs.

  • Provider Services

If any healthcare service is deemed medically necessary, it is covered by Medicare Part B.

Georgia Medicare Part B costs and Florida Medicare Part B Costs

  • Medicare Part B coverage is typically paid for in monthly premiums decided by the United States government.
  • For 2024 the Medicare Part B payment will be $174.70/month. If you are on Social Security it the funds are automatically deducted starting 1st day of your birth month after you are enrolled in Medicare.
  • You pay more if you income is above average
  • In addition to the monthly payment you have a 1 time per year $240 Part B Deductible. You pay the first $240 of doctor bills and other Part B items each year then Medicare kicks in.
  • Once you have paid the $240, Medicare part B kicks in and will pay 80% of remaining doctor costs and other Part B items for the year. You will pay the remaining 20% (if you don’t have some private Medicare Plan in place. If you do have private insurance in place it will cover all or most of this 20% depending on the type of plan you choose. Contact me to see your best plan options)
