Georgia Medicare Part B Payment

Can I avoid paying Part B $170.10/month monthly payment?
This is a question I get asked a lot. Just a recap: Once you are on Medicare Part B you are then subject to the $170.10/month cost for Part B which is taken directly from your Social Security each month, unless you have not yet started Social Security in which case you will have to pay Medicare directly from some other means.
The only way to avoid Part B is if you happen to have an employer plan that you are keeping past age 65. SOME of those do not require you to have Part B. Most DO.
For example retired Georgia teachers and educators in Georgia entering Medicare are required to have both A and B to retain their union insurance. Plus they have to pay their monthly payment for their retirement insurance (see me about an alternative).
Georgia Veterans entering into Medicare are required to have both A and B to retain Tri-Care (for those eligible for Tri Care).
HOWEVER
A person working for a private company (with 20+ employees) past their age of 65, who is keeping their employer coverage- this person can typically delay taking Part B. Their employer coverage
does not require the individual to have Part B. Call me to discuss your particular situation.

Lastly, folks who are eligible for Medicaid can get their Part B paid for by Medicaid. Medicaid has different levels. If you are at the top level, they pay all of it plus your $233/year Part B deductible (what you have to pay doctors offices each year before Medicare kicks in). Other folks may get the $170.10 paid, but not the deductible. Its based on your income and assets according to the chart below.
